| fashionable and comfortable stockings |
The specialists at the VeinCare Centre can advise you about medical compression
hosiery. Compression stockings are an important aspect of the treatment of venous disease. The compression graduates in
intensity from the ankles up, with the greatest pressure at the ankles where swelling occurs and the lowest at the thigh.
The result is reduced pooling and significantly improved blood flow back to your heart. They alleviate many of the symptoms
of varicose veins and venous disease such as ache and swelling as well as preventing the complications of venous disease such
as phlebitis and venous ulceration. In addition, compression hosiery has been shown to reduce the incidence of flight and
travel related deep vein thrombosis (“economy class syndrome”).

LymGym
The VeinCare Centre can supply you with the LymGym which helps increase
blood flow in the deep veins by nearly 8 times above the resting level. The exercises involved in its use are an easy way
to minimise the risks of DVT when it may be inconvenient to walk around.

Measurement and Fitting
It
is important that people wearing medical grade compression hosiery are carefully measured and fitted with their stockings.
The specialists at the VeinCare Centre have been specially trained to supply the correct size stocking and to advise about
the wearing of your hosiery.

In line with Department of Health advice, we suggest that during your journey you

get comfortable in your seat and recline as much as possible
-
bend and straighten your legs, feet and toes while seated
every half-hour or so during the flight
-
press the balls of your feet down hard against the floor
or foot-rest to increase the blood flow in your legs and reduce clotting

do upper body and breathing exercises to further improve
circulation
-
take occasional short walks around the cabin, whilst cruising
at altitude
-
take advantage of refuelling stopovers where it may be possible
