Treatment
The
VeinCare Centre uses the latest techniques to treat your varicose veins and venous problems. Depending upon the cause
of your venous problem, you may be best treated by:
- A minimally invasive surgical technique such as VNUS ClosureFAST or Laser Therapy
- Traditional surgery tailored to your pattern of reflux identified on the
ultrasound scan or sclerosing injections
All the treatment options for varicose vein removal and thread vein removal will be discussed with you including their merits,
side effects and limitations as well as the cost. Your consultation will not be rushed and you will have ample opportunity
to ask questions.

What do injections involve?
At
The VeinCare Centre many people can be treated with a technique called Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. In this technique,
a solution called a “sclerosant” is made up as a foam and under the guidance of an ultrasound probe, the sclerosant
is injected into the veins that are the path of reflux as well as the varicose veins themselves. The injections remove the
lining of the veins and start a healing process that seals the veins.
In appropriate cases, the results of this treatment are similar to traditional
surgery. Many people are attracted to this treatment option as there are no surgical incisions, no time off work (“down
time”) and no general anaesthetic. The cost of this treatment option is typically half that of standard surgery.

What does surgery involve?
At
The VeinCare Centre, surgery is performed by highly qualified and experienced specialist surgeons. It is usually undertaken
as a day-case, and often under local anaesthetic. The patient can usually walk again within a few hours. A full return to
driving usually takes a week or so and most need only a couple of weeks off work.
Surgery is carried out with precision techniques and delicate instruments,
which offer excellent cosmetic results. The techniques used by The Veincare Centre are associated with high patient satisfaction
rates. Each operation is tailored to the precise pattern of reflux identified by the ultrasound scan. Early diagnosis
and treatment ensure that the condition is not allowed to deteriorate

What does VNUS Closure involve?
VNUS
ClosureFAST is a new minimally invasive "key hole" procedure that gives excellent cosmetic results and very rapid
return to normal activities. There are no surgical scars and people who have had the treatment can usually drive within 48
hours and resume full activities shortly after. VNUS is performed under local anaesthetic with no need for admission to hospital
and no need for a hospital operating theatre. The varicose veins are heated and sealed from the inside with radio-frequency
energy using very fine catheters.
What does Laser involve? EVLT
is a new endo-venous laser therapy that seals veins without surgery or stripping. It is similar to VNUS Closure.
Both so-called endovenous techniques
probably have lower recurrence rates than standard surgery.
