Traditionally, GPs have been happy to refer their patients for private varicose treatment. This doesn’t seem to be the case now. Why?
I think the main reason is that GPs now no longer refer patients with vein problems to the local NHS hospital. So, they no longer know who is their local expert in looking after vein problems. GPs are very busy and my impression is that they simply do not have time to keep up to date with all the latest developments in vein treatments such as endovenous laser, VNUS Closure, Foam Sclerotherapy and superglue VenaSeal. So increasingly now, people are having to do their own research to find out what modern treatments are available and which specialists are experts in their locality.
Sadly, patients can no longer rely on the NHS for treatment and they can no longer rely on their GP to find out which specialist is the best in their area to treat their vein condition. My advice is “Do your own research and make your own choice”.

The VeinCare Centre also offers a screening assessment with our vascular technologist. For £25 you can have a scan with Wendy Parsons. She is not a doctor and so she could not give you medical advice but she can check your deep veins and your varicose veins and give you an idea of how bad they are and whether laser might be suitable for you.
