Varicose veins affecting the vulva and vagina are a particularly embarrassing problem. In many cases, they arise during pregnancy or after childbirth and multiple pregnancies are the main risk factor for these types of vein. They are associated with reflux in the ovarian veins of the pelvis and abdomen which is thought to develop during labour.
